Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
One of our goals at Dawn Farm is to create a safe and healthy environment to enable all people to pursue recovery from addiction. In order to achieve this goal, we must be respectful and kind in our communication with both other clients and staff. This includes avoiding language that can cause harm. Below are some rights and responsibilities in regards to inclusivity:
Rights:
You have the right to feel physically safe and free from threats of violence
You have the right to live your cultural identity and values
You have the right to practice your religion without prejudice
You have the right to not experience sexual comments and/or advancements from other clients or staff
You have the right to be in an environment free from any negative comments regarding your ability status
You have the right to be respected at Dawn Farm, even when engaged in difficult conversations
Responsibilities:
You have the responsibility to not make racist comments or use racist or discriminatory language
You have the responsibility to not use derogatory hateful speech towards individuals about their sexual orientations or expression of gender (this includes homophobic or transphobic comments)
You have the responsibility to not demean or belittle anyone’s religion or religious/spiritual beliefs or practices
You have the responsibility to not comment on other people’s bodies or sexualize other clients or staff (this includes not commenting on how attractive or unattractive you may find another person)
You have the responsibility to not make threats of violence or intimidation towards any clients or staff
You have the responsibility to not use any of the above language even when retelling a story about something someone else said or in a “joking” manner
We take equity very seriously and discriminatory language or other harmful speech will not be tolerated at Dawn Farm. People make mistakes and if you do, we ask that you take an inventory, promptly admit when you are wrong, and make corrections or restoration - when possible and appropriate.
