If a client appears to have low blood sugar, bring them to a safe place to sit. Symptoms of low blood sugar may include:
Have the client test their blood sugar. If blood sugar is very low, give the person something high in sugar to eat or drink and recheck blood sugar in 15 minutes.
If the client is unable to speak, stand or walk, or feels that they may pass out (or has already passed out), contact emergency services.
Follow these guidelines for blood sugar levels:
If in active withdrawals and glucose is <70 or >300, contact Medical Director.
if not in active withdrawals and glucose is <70 or >200, contact Medical Director.
Complete Incident Report if needed.
