Food Donations

Goal - why is this important to us?

We want clients and staff to be safe. Dawn Farm clients in need of food, will have increased access to it. Dawn Farm will be able to thank the person/group who made the donation!

Important

We don’t accept homemade or opened prepared food items. We don’t accept expired food items.

*Other exceptions can be made with coordinator’s/administrative approval for homemade desserts (cookies, cakes, pies) specifically prepared for clients.

Examples

Yes we can accept

Canned foods

Unopened food bags/containers, such as: chips, juice, dried pasta, bread, carrots, etc.

Fresh produce

Day-old baked goods from commercial sources (not homemade)

No we can’t accept

Leftover meals or snacks from an event/ restaurant

Homemade meals or snacks

Expired canned foods

Steps-what do I do?

Whenever possible, transfer the donor to our Development Director at the Farm to coordinate approval of items and a drop off time.

If Development Director is not available:

Use your best judgement & the guidelines to decide if we can and are able to accept the food donation.
Kindly let the donor know that in the future, they should call in order to set up a drop off time and approval of items.

Complete a Donation Form for ALL DONATIONS

Ask donor to fill out section 1 of the donation card.
You fill out section 2, but cross out pick up time and write dropped off.
Send filled out card to Development Director.

What to do if I can’t accept the donation?

Let the donor know that unfortunately, due to health and safety regulations we are not accepting prepared or expired foods, but that we do appreciate them thinking of us!

Follow-up - what loose ends do I need to wrap up?

Send completed donation card through interoffice mail to our Development Director at the Farm.
Put food away.
