Disposable gloves
Paper towels or towel that can be thrown away
Warm water, soap or disinfectant cleaner, possibly bleach
May need green hazard/spill kit
Bio-hazard bin
5-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area to clean up
If cleanup is following a client emergency resulting in hospital care, contact Program Coordinator and complete an incident report.
Put on gloves
Collect cleaning supplies- you may need a bucket for larger areas
Make sure you have a garbage bag ready to dispose of soiled cleaning supplies
Soak up any bodily fluids that may be on the surface to clean using paper towels, supplies form green spill kit, or regular towels that can be thrown away.
Using either Red Disinfectant cleaner or bleach solution, soak soiled area and allow to remain wet for at least 3 minutes before wiping.
Use paper towels to wipe away cleaner from surface.
Throw away all contaminated cleaning supplies in bio-hazard bin.
Wash hands
Notes about cleanup-
If using bleach solution for cleanup, bleach should be mixed in a ratio of 1 tablespoon bleach to one gallon of water.
If cleanup of a large fabric surface is required, such as a bed or couch, determine if replacement will be needed. You may need to contact Program Coordinator or Maintenance for further instructions.
If bodily fluids exposure requires replacement of furniture or carpets, complete maintenance request and notify Program Coordinator.
Complete Incident Report as needed
