Medical Exams

Dawn Farm assures that all admissions to Spera and residential treatment receive a medical exam.

• In residential treatment, clients are linked with a primary care provider, who will provide an exam within the first 30 days.
• In Spera, clients will receive their exam during their stay. All exams will be completed by medical staff contracted by Dawn Farm, unless there are major medical complications. In the case of complications, the client would receive their exam by University of Michigan hospital medical staff.

OB/GYN

If a client identifies as being pregnant during the intake process, staff will contact the Medical Dircector for guidance or special instructions.

If a client identifies as being pregnant during the prescreen process for detox, staff will contact the Medical Director for directions. Pregnancy tests are also available. If a test is positive, staff will again contact the Medical Director for guidance.

Because a significant percentage of Dawn Farm clients have been victims of physical and/or sexual abuse, physical contact of any sort can be difficult. The medical staff for Dawn Farm must always be sensitive to this potential for discomfort on the part of clients. If a breast examination or any examination of the sexual organs is required, the client will be referred to an outside medical provider.
