We care about the safety of our clients and staff. In the event of a bomb threat emergency, we want everybody to know what to do.
5 minutes for drill, could be much longer if actual emergency

If this is a REAL emergency, also notify your Program Coordinator and 911 ASAP
When practicing a bomb threat drill, first talk with your coworkers about what needs to be done, and how you will decide who does what. Keep in mind that you will each need to do more than one of the following tasks:
1. Get information. If you receive a bomb threat or any type of threat that would affect everyone in the building, stay calm and try to get as much information as possible. Ask questions, but be sure to let the person give as much additional detail as possible. Do not interrupt. Write down as much of the following information as possible:
Remember, these are examples of what to ask. In a real emergency it may not be possible to gather this much information.
The person receiving the threat should be the person who talks to the police about the threat. Contact the police immediately after speaking with the caller. Give the police any information requested and comply with their directions. The police may direct you to move farther away from the building depending on the type of bomb.
2. Signal an evacuation, using the fire alarm. Collect the client roster, a cell phone, and van keys (in the event that you need to relocate clients to another site or further away) and immediately proceed to the designated evacuation area. Once all clients are present, do a roll call.
Direct everyone outside and to the designated evacuation area, via the closest available exit:
3. Sweep the inside of the building (including basement) to make sure all clients are aware of the drill and are able to leave. If someone is unable to evacuate under their own power, two staff could use the stretcher in the office to carry that person.
4. Sweep the outside of the building to make sure that everyone meets at the designated evacuation area.
5. Time the drill. Time starts when the alarm sounds, and ends when roll call is completed outside.
6. Contact your supervisor. Your supervisor, in conjunction with the administrative team, will provide additional instructions, as needed.
7. Complete the Emergency Drill Report on Apricot and log in daybook
8. In the event of an actual bomb threat emergency, complete an Incident Report as well.
If this was a real emergency, debrief with clients and Program Coordinator and follow all instructions given by 911 and Program Coordinator
