Narcan Nasal Spray Quick Guide

Step 1: Put on your gloves (before touching person)

Step 2: Diagnose that the person is having an overdose

• Blue lips
• Aren’t breathing
• Not responding to pain (rubbing sternum or under bridge of nose)

Step 3: Call 911 on Speakerphone

Step 4: Lay the person on their back

Step 5: Do Rescue Breathing

• Tilt head back
• Open mask bag, push open, put valve in
• Place mask tightly over face
• Give 2 rescue breaths with 5 sec. between each (don’t empty your lungs!)

Step 6: Administer Narcan Nasal Spray

Spray plunger is sensitive, do not push until inserted in nose!

• 1 spray, 1 nostril

Step 7: Set your timer & return to 3 mins of rescue breathing

• 10-12 breaths a minute (5 sec between each)

Step 8: After 3 minutes, if no response (breathing but still unconscious counts as no response), get a new nasal spray & repeat the steps until EMS arrive.

Step 9: Move person to their side (recovery position)
